Fingerboarding je sport, který vznikl ve Spojených státech v roce 1985. Časopis Transworld Skateboard Magazine otiskl návod jak miniaturní skateboard vyrobit slepením sedmi baseballových karet. Podvozek (truck) byl vyroben z mazacích gum z tužek a kolečka s osičkami byly použity z modelů aut - angličáků.
V roce 1986 se začaly první fingerboardy vyrábět průmyslově, nejprve jako přívěšky na klíče. Fingerboardy měly funkční kolečka, jen při jízdě překážel přívěškový řetízek. Někdo však tehdy vymyslel, že se budou podvozky vyrábět kovové a že se bude na fingerboardy dávat protismykový grip. V dnešní době je největším výrobcem fingerboardů firma TechDeck. V posledních letech se začali vyrábět i desky z dřevěné dýhy s 3 nebo 5 vrstvami[zdroj?] .
Nejvíce se fingerboardu daří v Německu a to ve velkých i malých městech. V Americe učinil pokles fingerboardaku zvětšený počet skateboardistů.[zdroj?]
Fingerboarding vznikl v Americe v době, kdy začínal skateboarding. Začaly se vyrábět přívěsky ve tvaru skateboardů. No a chytré hlavy vymyslely, ľe by se na těchto přívěscích dalo jezdit pomocí prstů. Jak se vyvíjel skateboarding a nové triky, vąichni si je začali zkouąet i na fingerboardech. Jedinou nevýhodou byly řetízky, pomocí kterých se fingerboardy věąely na klíče. A tak časem vznikla firma TechDeck™, která začala vyrábět fingerboardy a vyrábí je dodnes ( vąechny moľné značky od A-Teamu po Zero ). Fingerboardů se prodává hodně. Od umělohmotnejch bez gripu s umělejma trekama ( tak 50 Kč ) přes střední třídu ( 230 Kč ) aľ po TechDecky za 350 Kč ( já jezdím na TechDecku Birdhouse - můľu doporučit ). U TechDeck fingerboardů dostanete i náhradní kolečka, matičky, ąroubky a nářadí. Skatepark pro fingerboard se dá koupit v některých skateshopech, nebo na oficiální stránce TechDecku.
